What is a louse ?
A louse is a wingless insect that is an external parasite in mammals and humans, whose blood it sucks.
Lice are found in farm buildings, notably in laying hens. Lice nest in the animal’s feathers, causing colouring on the eggs (red spots) and infecting the personnel in charge of gathering the eggs. They are therefore considered a real scourge in this sector.
LCB food safety has developed a research programme to find solutions against this scourge.
